Who we are as a church
Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church is a vibrant and active congregation rooted in the heart of rural, north central Iowa. We are a warm, welcoming, and mission-driven community with a heart for sharing the Gospel and serving those around us.

Our members are committed to growing deeper in faith and wider in outreach. We are especially passionate about engaging youth, welcoming new families into the life of the church, and living out our discipleship in tangible ways within our town and beyond. When a neighbor is in need, we step up. That is who we are.

We are proud to be a member of both NALC and LCMC.

We believe God has big plans for EGELC and we are ready to follow where He leads.
OUR VISION
Every day is a blessing from God and it is our goal to meet each new day ready to serve our Lord. The future is filled with the promise of God's presence and our work is still the same as those who have gone before us.
WHAT WE DO
Following the example of Jesus Christ and the Church that has gone before us; we work together to feed the hungry, care for the poor, visit the sick and in everything we do proclaim the good news that Christ has died, Christ is risen and Christ will come again.
OUR COMMUNITY
Serving as one body, we trust and believe that great things can happen in the name of Christ. We pray that through our work, by the power of the Holy Spirit, others may come to believe that God's gift of grace is for all.
HISTORY OF THE CHURCH
The Eagle Grove Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation was founded on July 25, 1884. We began with 8 families and 1 single man. In ten years there were 70 families (and Ole Gunderson was married). We currently have many baptized children of God members that call EGELC their church home.
Over the years the congregation has been affiliated with several Lutheran denominations. Today we are a part of both the LCMC and NALC.

Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church has a deep and lasting connection to missionary work in China—one that began with a faithful member, Daniel Nelson.
Daniel and his wife immigrated to America and settled in Eagle Grove. One day, while shingling his roof, he heard God’s call: “Sell your farm, take your family, and go to China.” He obeyed without hesitation. For 25 years, Daniel served the church in China, preaching the Gospel until the very end—when he was tragically shot in the head while delivering his final sermon. His sacrifice left a lasting legacy.

In October 2019, a group of students and church members traveled to China on a mission trip, continuing the work Daniel began so many years ago. This long-standing bond between our congregation and the people of China remains a powerful part of our identity and mission—testifying to God’s enduring call to go and make disciples of all nations.
